Superintendent’s Conference Day Kicks Off New School Year

Superintendent’s Conference Day Kicks Off New School Year

The Central Islip School District welcomed back its staff and faculty on Monday, August 31, marking the official start of the 2026-27 school year.

Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, Superintendent of Schools, thanked everyone for attending and shared an inspirational message centered on the miraculous comeback by the New York Knicks during the NBA Finals in June. She used the comeback as an example of the importance of never being counted out, regardless of the circumstances.

Mrs. Michele Harriott, President of the Board of Education, shared a similar message with staff, encouraging them to remain focused on the task at hand: providing Central Islip students with the best education possible.

Central administration also took time to recognize staff members who reached the 25- and 30-year milestones with the district. Each honoree was presented with a custom plaque commemorating their years of dedicated service.

To close out the morning, attendees were treated to a presentation by keynote speaker Mr. John Perricone, titled “Developing a Philosophical Identity.” Drawing from moments throughout his own teaching career, Perricone encouraged staff to approach each day with a fresh mindset and perspective.
